New items, no problem! The STAAR redesign has raised the bar and so has the lead4ward Rockin’ Review conference! This year’s conference anchors on the lead4ward 10-day review framework AND investigating STAAR data, STAAR released items, and instructional implications for ways to plan a review that helps students focus on the right things to be successful on STAAR.
We’ll highlight how to address the required layers of student thinking with prioritized content through meaningful engagement and strategies. Additionally, we’ll explore the best lead4ward resources and strategies for planning a review that targets student success with the novelty, writing, vocabulary, visuals, and comprehension required on all STAAR item types!
The lead4ward Rockin’ Review conference allows a campus team to learn together. We recommend that a team consist of at least one teacher from each content area and a campus leader. Participants choose one of the following sessions and remain in their selected content area throughout the conference: leader, math, reading language arts, science, social studies, or special education.

- focus review on high-impact TEKS clusters
- engage and energize learners with meaningful practices and strategies
- rehearse a planning process focused on visuals, engagement, thinking, comprehension, writing, and transfer
- provide the resources to plan a 10-day review
In the session for special educators in inclusive settings, we will:
- prioritize content and vocabulary for review geared toward students with disabilities
- turn effective learning strategies into allowable designated supports
- incorporate supplemental aids throughout the review process
- meaningfully collaborate with classroom teaching partners
